I love those cars. They are just so sharp and clean.

Bill Mitchell at his finest. I even love that console design, which Porsche came back decades later to “borrow” for the Panamera...

I had a 1963 in green with the 401 nailhead. It was rusted out pretty bad and I ended up abandoning in. I still maintain that the first generation Riviera is one of the best looking luxury coupes of that era.

That one’ s either a 63 or 64. They went to the super cool clamshell hidden headlights in 65. If you haven’t seen them before, check them out on Google.

They have come up in price a little despite The car having some things working against it that make it less desirable than other cars of the period.

The nailhead is unique and has very little aftermarket support and makes modest power. The x frame is flimsy. The body and frame somehow make it an issue if you want to swap in an sbc or BBC. I think the nailhead is short and the chevy stuff is too tall. Not 100% if that’s why .

There is hope. If you have deep pockets, there are builders who can make a custom frame with modern suspension and room for bigger engines.

Porsche has that in most of their cars now (all I think) and I really like it. It’s one of the better interiors of 2019 as far as I’m concerned.

That shape in general is fantastic and I wish more interiors resembled that design.

A fraternity brother in the 70's had one of these and wrapped it around a tree, while drunk on a Saturday night. He walked home, collected it in the morning and nothing ever happened with the cops. Those were the good old days.....

What, what? The good old days when you could get away with drunk driving?

Yes, the cops didn’t want to write you up because then they would have to take you in and you would probably puke in the back of their car.... H ard to believe. Huh.....

Completely agree.  Have always adored this console layout.

When GM was functioning at their peak, they did some beautiful things. Sad to think that just 15-16 years after this, the dealer that sold it would have had an X-body Skylark parked in its old spot in the showroom.

In college I had a beater 65 Buick Wildcat 2 door coupe the size of Manhattan. The thing was a beast. That 401 was all torque. Sooo easy to drive.
